The Sanya Research Base of the International Bamboo and Rattan Centre (ICBR) is a public scientific research institution approved by the State Commission Office of Public Sectors Reform (SCOPSR) and the National Forestry and Grassland Administration (NFGA) officially established in August, 2021. It is affiliated to NFGA and is administered by ICBR. The purpose of its establishment is to carry out scientific research on tropical and subtropical bamboo and rattan resources and serve as a scientific research platform for promoting the development of the global bamboo and rattan industry.

Headquartered in Sanya, Hainan, the Base consists of three research institutes, namely the Tropical Bamboo, Rattan and Flower Research Institute, the Subtropical Bamboo, Rattan and Flower Research Institute and the Temperate Bamboo, Rattan and Flower Research Institute. Specifically, the tropical branch is located in the headquarter of Sanya, while the subtropical branch is located in Huangshan, Anhui, and the temperate institute in Qingdao, Shandong.
