Conducts research on the conservation of germplasm resources of garden flowers and ornamental bamboo and rattan; genetic breeding, aerospace radiation breeding and their industrial application; landscape construction and aesthetics of garden flowers and ornamental bamboo and rattan in human settlements; the sustainable use and development of various types of public green spaces; research and practice of urban/forest landscape and landscape planning and design of national parks and nature reserves;

Organizes the promotion and transformation of scientific and technological achievements of the institute and conducting related technical consultations and services;

Cooperates with relevant state departments and associations to connect with major activities in the garden and flower industry and carrying out macro-strategic research on the garden and flower industry;

Undertakes the construction and operation of the Garden Flower and Ornamental Bamboo and Rattan Germplasm Resources Platform and the Guangxi Pingxiang Bamboo Forest Ecosystem Positioning, Observation and Research Station.
