From September 29th to October 5th, 2019, the 25th IUFRO Congress was held in Curitiba, Brazil. The theme of this year’s conference is "Forest Research and Cooperation to Promote Sustainable Development". More than 2500 representatives from Europe, America, Asia, Africa and Latin America, especially from 92 countries including the United States, India, China and Brazil, attended the conference.

 

ICBR has sent the a 14-member team, the largest delegation in recent years, to participate in this international forestry gathering. All the experts made presentations and demonstrated posters on a variety of academic topics: the characteristics of bamboo and rattan cell wall, mechanical properties of engineered bamboo materials, heat treatment, densification, resin impregnation and other modification technologies of bamboo and rattan materials, bamboo genomics and biotechnology, bamboo forest ecology, bamboo forest certification, and bamboo and rattan policy research.

 

ICBR and INBAR also jointly built a bamboo and rattan exhibition room at the conference. Through books, videos, exhibition boards, promotional materials and bamboo bookmark souvenirs, ICBR and INBAR vividly demonstrated the innovation and international cooperation in bamboo and rattan technology, receiving warm welcome by Mr. Valdir Colatto, Director of the Forestry Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food of Brazil, as well as participating experts and Brazilian partners.

 

The IUFRO Congress is held every five years and is the oldest, largest and most influential forestry academic conference in the world. The ICBR delegation demonstrated the latest achievements and developments in the ICBR’s main research fields through forms of meetings, exhibitions, presentations and discussions, expanding international exchange and cooperation in bamboo and rattan, and further enhancing the ICBR’s international reputation and influence.
