Conducts research on the properties of bamboo, rattan, and other biomass materials and their modification for preservation purposes; key technologies on the manufacture of bamboo-based engineered materials and high-performance bamboo fiber composite materials; and key technologies on the biorefinery of bamboo and rattan materials (bamboo charcoal, bamboo pulp and paper, bamboo as a source of fiber and energy, etc.).

Promotes green and precision processing and utilization of bamboo and rattan materials through technological upgrades and facilitates the transformation of related industries.

Conducts the promotion and commercialization of the technologies developed by the Research Institute and provides relevant technical consultation and other services.

Conducts research on the development of industry standards, national standards and international standards for bamboo and rattan materials and carries out the promotion and implementation of such standards, within the framework of China’s National Standardization Committee on Bamboo and Rattan and ISO Technical Committee on Bamboo and Rattan.

Carries out the development and operation of the National Innovation Alliance for Bamboo Charcoal Industry.
