The First International Academic Symposium on Bamboo as a Substitute for Plastic
Meeting Notice
Dear all:
In November 2022, the Government of China and International Bamboo and Rattan Organization(INBAR) formally co-launched the Concept Note of the Bamboo as a Substitute for Plastic Initiative(BASP), aiming at deepening cooperation of the Global Development Initiative by realizing the outstanding advantages and potential of bamboo in reducing plastic pollution, replacing plastic products and providing a nature-based solution for energy-intensive and difficult-to-degrade plastic products, while making a positive contribution to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
On the occasion of the BASP’s first anniversary, the National Forestry and Grassland Administration(NFGA) and INBAR are scheduled to co-host the First International Academic Symposium on Bamboo as a Substitute for Plastic on 7-8 November 2023 in Beijing. The Secretariat of INBAR and the International Centre for Bamboo and Rattan will also co-organize the symposium.
Under the theme “Innovative technologies Piloting Plastic and Carbon Reduction Actions, the symposium will create the platforms for building consensus, allowing us to collectively rise and meet the challenges of our time, from alleviating rural poverty and mitigating climate change to healing degraded soils and safeguarding vital ecosystems.
The detailed information are as follows:
I. Time and Venue
(i)Time: 7-8 November 2023, check-in all day on the 6th and meeting closure in the afternoon of the 8th.
(ii)Venue: China National Convention Center, No.7 Tianchen East Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing, China
(iii)Accommodation: Beijing Continental Grand Hotel, No.8 Beichen East Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing, China
II. Programme
(i)Opening Ceremony: 09:00-10:00, 7 November 2023
(ii)Keynote Sessions: 10:20-12:20, 7 November2023
(iii)Parallel Sessions: 7-8 November 2023 (info See Annex I)
(iv)Closing Ceremony: 12:00-12:20, 8 November 2023
III.Registration and Abstracts:
(i)The Organizing Committee will adopt the method of directional invitation. If you are interested in participation(Annex II), please contact us via basp2023@icbr.ac.cn. The registration deadline for in-person participation is 28 September 2023 at 17:00(GMT+8).
(ii)The BASP 2023 Organizing Committee now invites submission of abstracts to the email basp2023@icbr.ac.cn before 28 September 2023 that should be relevant to one of the following thematic areas and format( Annex I&III).
IV.Conference Logistics
Participants are responsible for their own travelling and accommodation, no registration fee and no pick-up.
